There is something about a warm mug of a delicious drink on a chilly winter day. This turmeric golden milk latte recipe is not only incredibly simple but has significant health benefits by incorporating the magic of turmeric and cinnamon. Why run out to Starbucks when you can do one better in the comfort of your own kitchen?

Less is More When it Comes to Ingredients

With only five simple ingredients, almond milk, turmeric, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and cinnamon, you can drink your turmeric golden milk latte knowing that you understand everything that went into it. I like this recipe because it’s warm and comforting without being overly sweet. But if sweet is your jam (no pun intended), you can sweeten this latte to your heart’s content by adding more maple syrup!

The Power of Turmeric

Turmeric is having a moment in the health food space, and for a good reason. The benefits of turmeric are immense. Thanks in part to the presence of curcumin. While some use turmeric and curcumin interchangeably, it’s important to distinguish that curcumin is a type of curcuminoid present in turmeric that’s responsible for giving turmeric its distinct flavor and yellow color.

Studies are ongoing, but initial research shows turmeric has been found to reduce inflammation, potentially lower the risk of heart disease, and help fight obesity. I began putting ½ tsp of turmeric in my morning coffee last year, and after just days, I noticed a reduction in inflammation in my knees and hips. I felt noticeably better after only changing this one small thing! Regardless of health benefits, I enjoy turmeric’s earthy flavor and love this golden milk latte simply from a flavor standpoint!

Make it Your Own

As with any recipe I create, this is merely a guide. You can add or remove ingredients according to your tastes and preferences. Some of the spices I like to mess around with adding are ground ginger and pumpkin pie spice. You can also mix up the almond milk in favor of another kind of non-dairy milk or cow’s milk if that’s what you’re into. I tend to think the nutty flavor of a plant milk lends to creating an even better taste profile.

Now I think you and I can be honest with each other. And if you warm your golden milk latte in a pan, it’s probably going to spill out over the sides of your cup like it always does to me. That’s okay. Take a deep breath, laugh a little, wipe it up, and enjoy your drink.

I like to add black pepper to mine! Tastes a little weird at first but the pepper helps your body absorb the tumeric better. I’ll have to try cinnamon that sounds delish!
